Movie Review For Thursday

Manu Bennett, Marci Miller, and Malcolm McDowell feature in Death Race 2050, an American political satire, action film directed by G.J. Echternkamp. A sequel to Death Race 2000 from 1975, this is a fast-paced action thriller. "A car-racing picture with some dark comedy" was Roger Corman's description of both films.

What is the plot of Death Race 2050?

In 2050, the world has changed. With an unemployment rate of 99.993% and an overpopulation problem in the United States, the Death Race offers entertainment and population management. Reigning Death Race champion Frankenstein is in the running for this year's title. Jed Perfectus, Minerva Jefferson, Tammy the Terrorist, and ABE, a black, artificially intelligent, self-driving automobile, struggle against Frankenstein in this action-adventure game. The race is presented in virtual reality, with an audience member acting as a surrogate for the driver. It doesn't take long for Frankenstein to get annoyed with his proxy, Annie Sullivan, and he dismisses her interview requests as well as her advice to allow his opponents to bypass him.

Rebels headed by former network producer Alexis Hamilton install traps around the sector as the racers sprint along the East Coast. When Tammy and Minerva kidnap each other's cult members for kills, they establish a bitter rivalry. ABE malfunctions after falling into a rebel trap, killing its surrogate and abandoning the race to find its purpose in life. Hamilton instructs Annie, who is revealed to be her spy, to murder Frankenstein at the first checkpoint. Her effort to attract him fails since he is just interested on winning the race. The Chairman says that because of his longevity, Frankenstein has become a burden, but Perfectus will inspire his dedicated supporters to die at his hands.

There are several gun-toting locals in this area on Day 2 of the racecourse. .'s Tammy sends a suicide bomber to assassinate Chi Wapp, Minerva's proxy, who is killed by the bomber herself. Frankenstein takes a shortcut to another tip, but his automobile gets trapped in a cornfield. Frankenstein fights off a gang of Resistance ninjas as Annie goes out on her own to get more points. Annie confesses to being a rebel at the second checkpoint and tries to get Frankenstein on board. Frankenstein, a political agnostic, condemns both the rebels and the government, repeating his ambition to win the race. It is revealed to Annie at a bar by the educated intellectual Minerva who portrays a stereotyped hip-hop role for survival. Annie returns to Frankenstein's chamber and protects him from Perfectus, who is envious of his notoriety and sex appeal. In the meanwhile, it is revealed that Hamilton and the Chairman are working closely behind the scenes.

On Day three of the race, the government will select "authorized" routes for the drivers to use so that they may escape Resistance assaults. As a result of the injuries sustained by Frankenstein's right arm during his battle with Perfectus, Annie assists Frankenstein in shifting gears. Minerva gives pursuit to Tammy, but she is unable to catch her because she is knocked down a cliff in an attempt to dodge Tammy's suicide proxy. Tammy takes pleasure in Minerva's demise, but this is cut short as an ABE comes back, smashes her against the wall, and then blows itself up, bringing both of them to their deaths. While Hamilton and her rebels are wiped out by Frankenstein and Annie, Perfectus is making his way to the finish line by a sneaky back way. Both vehicles continue to jostle for position until Perfectus loses control of his vehicle and slams into the virtual reality control booth. Just before he crosses the finish line, Frankenstein sends a message to his followers in which he suggests that the Chairman himself is worth one thousand points. After Frankenstein has finished off the Chairman, much to the pleasure of the onlookers, he invites them to forgo their virtual reality and begin their very own Death Race. Frankenstein and Annie observe from a distance while the nation devolves into a state of violent anarchy, during which time Frankenstein makes the suggestion that they should repopulate the country when the anarchy has subsided.

How exactly was Death Race 2050 put together?

An Italian journalist who was interviewing Corman noted that The Hunger Games had parallels to Death Race 2000, which sparked the idea for a follow-up picture by the director. To bring back the dark humor of his original, Corman approached Universal Pictures, the studio behind the current remake (which, in Corman's opinion, omitted much too much of the original's social criticism). "You did a terrific job," Corman told them, "but you've taken away the murdering of pedestrians and the broken-society themes."

Filming started when Corman was 80 years old, just before the 2016 presidential election. That businessman is currently the chairman of the United Corporations of America. "The president does have a hair style which may be approaching Trump's hair style, but I don't want to go too deep into that, since Trump will come and go and the film will stay."

People seemed to like watching Death Race 2050, didn't they?

"For a movie about the Death Race coming to an end, there are a lot of Death Races in the movie. It's Death Race 2050, a movie made by Roger Corman. It comes after the Death Race trilogy with Jason Statham in the late 2000s and early 2010. As good as they were, they had almost nothing to do with the original Death Race 2000 from the 1970s. With first post a three-day race across a dystopian America, pedestrian deaths earn points for people with over-the-top personalities who kill people. ...but this time, there's a 50 in front of it." - Decker Shado

The Making of 2050, The Look of 2050, and Cars!, three making-of documentaries, were included on the film's DVD and Blu-ray release in the United States. Motor vehicles are everywhere. It was released on March 20th, 2017 in the United Kingdom.

The film has an 88 percent acceptance rating on rottentomatoes.com based on eight reviews with a 6.8/10 average.

Chris Alexander described the movie in an article for ComingSoon.net as "loud, strident, spastic, sadistic, stylish, slipshod, foolish, and brilliant in equal amounts." Film critic Scott Weinberg, writing for the website Nerdist, described the production as "all extremely awkward and rickety and kitschy, but that's just part of the'shaggy dog' appeal of the production." And a review that was published on Screenanarchy.com by Sebastian said that the film "has enough blood, guts, naive political commentary, scenery chewing, and bad special effects for it to become a cult classic."
